Is the Carlin corpse-fucking done?

*Disclaimer*: I’m one of many people who never thought George Carlin was funny and who believed that he ruined Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure.

Now, honestly people…why is it that just about every political blog has been spammed with the 30 year old “comedy” bits that weren’t funny 30 years ago?  I don’t get it.  Carlin didn’t contribute anything to society, at least to the world I lived in, beyond obnoxious holier-than-thou types quoting him like he was a genius or something.  And don’t act shocked he died.  He was 71 years old.  That’s a long time to annoy the hell out of me.  Is Carlin another sad icon of “speaking truth to power” by desperate, sheltered and too-afraid-to-defend-themselves liberals who are going to put him on a pedestal like Hunter S. Thompson?

Please tell me because I’m ’bout ready to go upside some heads.  What kills me the most are the atheists/anti-religionists are talking about how Carlin is part of some “comedy trinity” (among these types that includes Lenny Bruce and Andy Kaufmann (Y-A-W-N).

Yes.

Can the corpse-fucking end?

Now?

Please?

The Unoriginal Dana Milbank

It amuses me when I see article from the corporate media that echo something I’ve read in the liberal blogosphere.  It’s even funnier when it’s a blatant lift.  For a while, I was convinced that Joel Stein was cyberstalking my blog posts and comments.  His articles from ‘06 - ‘07 were way too close to mine.  If I blogged or long-commented on something, I could guarantee that Stein would have an article about the same thing in 2 - 3 weeks.  So I was absolutely tickled when I opened Milbank’s This is an Ex-Candidate article and noted that it lifted a reference from a March article from Booman.

McCainisms

Digging for ponies.

Sigh.

What does that mean? John McCain first used it on April 12th, then again today. Atrios has video of today’s reference:

The DNC’s blog mentioned it on the 12th and the author has something of a probable explanation.  Super Blogger Oliver Willis used the expression last year, so maybe he can shed some light.

So much to blog about…

Not that you care, but I’m not having trouble with my blogging editor. All of a sudden, it’s not letting me do a WYSIWYG and it’s annoying the crap out of me.

Booman has a post up entitled Gangsta Rap Has Nothing to Do With It. You should read it, but more importantly, you get linked to the racist bile that has become Larry Johnson’s M.O. I gotta lot of stuff to say about that post.

The Militant Angleno has a map describing Los Angeles. By all rights, that should stop the holier-than-thou faction of Silver Lakers from claiming Eastside status. (h/t to Jason Burns over at Metblogs LA)

My daughter’s ballet recital is tomorrow and I’m nervous because of the costume. This time around they’re doing The Wizard of Oz songs and they were supposed to dress like Dorothy. I wonder what the boys were supposed to wear. Anyway, I looked into buying her a costume, but I couldn’t really afford it, nor could I justify spending $20 - $40 on something cheaply made. So, I bought her a blue and white seersucker sundress. I figured it’s close enough and she can wear it all summer.

Darrel Bell’s Candorville comic for today is hilarious and spot on as usual.

Who’s experience?

A couple of weeks back, Omir the Storyteller, posted a funny skit over at Booman Tribune. We all laughed and thought it would be great to see in video. Real History Lisa found some people and some money and got it done.

Dumbest “upgrade” ever

Say I want to quote something. I have to press Ctrl-V twice. First time, a box shows up:

(BTW, image uploading doesn’t work either, so I’ve had to add this to my flickr)

Anyway, after that I have to press Ctrl-V again and then I have to actually press the Insert button to get my copied text into my post.  This is what it looks like when it gets back in:

You see how all the text is bunched up?  That’s not where my cursor was when I first pressed Ctrl-V.  Now I have to go back in and reformat the copied text.

I share all this to explain why I haven’t posted anything today.  The post I put in last night took forever to post because of that.  It’s a serious turn off, completely unnecessary and wasteful.

Whoo-Hoo! No more registration issues

Notice something gone?

Yep, thanks to demeur, you no longer have to register to comment. Isn’t that wonderful news? Now, this also rectifies the OpenID issues.

Blog Update: OpenID, avatars and other stuff

OpenID: I’m aware there is a serious issue with getting OpenID to work on this.  It’s not recognizing any of my 5 OpenID tags, which is totally aggravating.  I’m working on getting that fixed.

Avatars: If you want to use an avatar you can, just not through your profile for some stupid reason.  You can get a gravatar which is tied to your email address.  Just make sure it’s the same email address you use here or it may not show.

Reply to *****: Still working on getting that fixed for threaded comments.  I managed to reply to one comment, but otherwise the box doesn’t get a cursor.

Register to comment: Still trying to figure out why it’s necessary.  I don’t know if it’s the iteration of WP, the theme or some plugin.

If there are any other bugs please let me know by using the contact form (it works!).

Other than that…

Oh no, you have to register to comment!

Don’t ask me why…but there you have it and I’m not about to swap out the template and stuff again, so we’ll both have to just deal with it.

So, let’s get started. First off, you’ll notice a ‘Register’ button at the top of the screen.

You can go there and register, but most likely you were going to make a comment and saw:

You were probably all kinds of grumbly…”Just who does faboo mama think she is, making me register? She only get like 4 hits a day.” I know…but I don’t know how to bypass it so you’ll either register or we’ll just have to miss you.

You have two options. You can register with email, that means making your own userID or using OpenID.

Each has it’s own pros/cons, just know that if you register by email, the username can not be altered.

Once you’ve registered, you’ll be taken to a dashboard where you can change your profile, including your password. From the dashboard, you’ll see a link back to this site.

Then you’ll be free to move about the cabin.

Once back inside and ready to comment, you’ll see that the comment box is now an Rich-Text Editor.

I can assume that you know what those coded buttons mean since you’ve probably been using them for the last 5+ years. You now have ability to preview your comments and I’m looking to see if there’s a way to make that mandatory in order to comment. You should be able to reply to one another’s posts for threaded comments. Right now, it’s not working and I think it’s a setting I did.

I think that’s it for now. If you run into any glitches that you notice beyond the ones I mentioned above, let me know.
Thank you.
