Right Said, Fred. I”m Out

h/t to BooMan, Think Progress is reporting that Fox News is reporting that Fred Thompson is dropping out of the presidential race.

From CNN:

“Today I have withdrawn my candidacy for president of the United States,” Thompson said in a statement.

“I hope that my country and my party have benefited from our having made this effort. Jeri and I will always be grateful for the encouragement and friendship of so many wonderful people.”

As the first comment at TP says:

Will anyone even notice?

Good golly!

BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

In the statement, Thompson did not say whether he would endorse any of his former rivals. He was one of a handful of members of Congress who supported Arizona Sen. John McCain in 2000 in his unsuccessful race against George W. Bush for the party nomination. (MSNBC)

Actually you should read the MSNBC article. It’s pretty amazing in it’s objective look at Thompson’s campaign. Nowhere does it acknowledge how big a role the media performed in creating the hype. From Thompson first being mentioned back in Marck (media!) to the lazy meme (media), the article reads as if these “facts” just happened. Stunning.

******

I wouldn’t be surprised to see Rudy go next. He has 1 delegate, has come in 5th or 6th in all the races so far, is losing money with his top staff forgoing salaries and has decided for whatever reason [coughhangingchadscough] to only focus on Florida. I’m not a political analyst or anything, but I think with Thompson gone and Rudy possibly close to following, Bloomberg will definitely through his hat in the ring. I really hope not. If my friends in NYC can’t stand Bloomberg, there has to be a reason.
