I wholehartedly agree. The 90's was the worst thing to happen to the music scene, well, ever! 1990, in particular. While eryone else was listening to Nirvana and Soundgarden, I was still listening to New Order, Pet Shop Boys (who, thank God, made their best album "Very", in '92, and that sadly didn't see any airplay during the reign of grunge), Happy Mondays, Soup Dragons, Jellyfish, The KLF, Erasure, and Depeche Mode.

The weird thing is, I hated Pet Shop Boy's in the 80's. But when Behaviour came out, It's like they were a totally different band, on that album - melancholy with a hint of optimism.

When Nirvana was just getting big in the US, I had just gotten back from a trip from Germany, and discovered uderground Techno and Acid House, and there was no looking back. I was head-over-heals in love with electronic music.
When I brought back some techno CD'S from Europe, people thought I was insane. Nirvana basically cut out all other forms of music from getting airplay, in the 90's. Even Prodigy left their rave roots, and looked like total emo freaks when the finally got exposure. Too bad 'Exerience' and "Music for the Gilted Generation" were their best albums.
The sad fact is still America has a phobia of electronic music, for some reason.
Great Article, though!

yes 90's music sucked and still does, and worse yet 2000's music is worse. its a tragedy that hip hop, rap and grunge will not fade away like disco did. very sad indeed

hooverphonic, portishead, lush, and my god, who can forget john forte's poly sci.

the gem of the period is still massive attack's mezzanine which is still getting as much play on my ipod today as it did on the cd player back then.

oh yeah...and prodigy.....

all in all, i'd rather we were still in the 90's--there's no denying that there was far more diversity in musical genres back then than there is now.
