Headed to Chicago

YearlyKos is upon us and I’m headed for Chicago tomorrow morning (dang SuperShuttle picks me up at 3:20am!). I’m super excited. My husband is attending the YK Convention in Second Life. I just freeze up at all the things I’ll be able to do. Too much stuff and not enough time. Gaaah!

Worse Boss of the Year

Car dealer kills two workers who asked for pay raises.

Milinavicius, 38, turned himself in two days after the shootings and confessed to the killings, telling them he was under a lot of stress, East Point police Capt. Russell Popham said.

“As I understand, the employees were not really happy about the pay, and they had questioned him about it over the course of time,” Popham said. “That morning he said he just snapped.”

Stress? Shit. You eat a lot, watch too much TV or take up exercising. You do NOT kill people. That’s a big no-no and it’s generally frowned up.

My garden

I saw that I had posted a pic of my garden on May 11. I was terribly impressed with myself and had to brag (why else would anyone have a blog, right?). Anyway, I just realized that many of you may not be aware that my garden has grown. Here are some pics taken a couple of days ago from the same angles:

vegetable garden

and

beach in the backyard

Not bad for 3 months of growth, eh? Of course, today I pulled out the tomato plants. Half the tomatoes had spider nest in them. Yuck! I’m also going to install a micro-pergola for my stinking cantaloupe plant that’s grown about 10 feet in two directions and 6 in a another.

iVilliage really, really sucks at the customer service thing

Life shouldn’t be hard. Customer service really isn’t hard. When you know that your customers are busy moms and may have a job and other concerns, your first step should be to least NOT be a problem.

Maybe I’m self-centered that way.

In my previous post, I mentioned that they double charged me two different amounts twice. The reply to me email:

Hello,

We have canceled your subscription to the Premium Message Boards, order #35884. A credit of $34.99 has been applied to your credit card.

The refund should appear on your statement in a few days.

Unfortunately, I cannot find transaction in our system fir the $29.00. If you are unable to locate your reading with the link provided in the email we sent you after you placed your order, please send us the following information:

- Order ID
- Email address with which reading was ordered
- Method of payment: credit/debit card, check, PayPal, FirstGate

Yep. They decided to just cancel the account. But keep in mind that the $29 charge was still in effect, so I should have the same privileges right? Nope. When I logged onto iVillage, I could only read one post at a time and my siggies disappeared. Nice. So I went bitch on them:

What are you doing? I did not ask for my account to be cancelled. I asked for the double charges to be settled. How hard is this?

1. On the 23rd of July, iVillage charged the same Visa card twice. One for $34.99 and one for $29.99.
2. I asked you to rectify the situation.
3. I did not ask you to cancel my account.

I’ll make it easy for you. Since you’ve credited the $34.99 to my account. Reinstate my account with the $29.99 you’ve kept.

Today, I get this back:

Hello Ms Denton,

Re: “Since you’ve credited the $34.99 to my account. Reinstate my account with the $29.99 you’ve kept.”

1- Yes, we canceled your subscription to the Premium Message Boards, order # 183401. (Email address for this subscription was “fabooj@***.com”.) A credit of $34.99 was applied to your credit card.

2- We didn’t know you used another email address with iVillage.com - “fabooj@$$$.com” - for the $29.99 subscription, order # 179392.
We never located the account and never canceled it, which is why you never received the requested refund.

3- We don’t know which email address you wish to use for the Boards:
“fabooj@$$$.com”, or “fabooj@***.com”
Therefore, we have now canceled the duplicate subscription to the Premium Message Boards, order #179392. A credit of $59.98 (2 X $29.99 - 2006/2007) has been applied to your credit card.
The refund should appear on your statement in a few days.

4- If you wish to re subscribe with the correct email address, please click on the link below or paste it into your browser window. You will be taken to the appropriate sign-up page.

I can’t complain because they did refund the money which is what I asked, but they still cancelled the account which I didn’t want. Don’t ask me about the two separate emails. I used one to get the account and the other is the contact for private emails. So, even though I’m kinda busy, I get to waste time signing up. Again.

The sound of silence

Today is the first time 7 months that we’ve been baby free during the day. Alton started at school today and hopefully, he’s doing well. We haven’t received any calls yet.

BLISS.

If I wanted to, I could actually get some work done.

FARCE: CNN/YouTube "Debates"

I am so utterly disgusted with CNN and Anderson Cooper for that farce that occured last night. If you didn’t watch, you’re lucky. First of all, as I wrote on DailyKos today:

If they’re going to call these debates, then let the candidates debate. Otherwise call it what it is, Soundbite Forum. We all know that clips from these “debates” are going to wind up in ads.

1. There were a lot of submissions available on YouTube from engaged young adults. The questions were complex and revealed the people who were paying attention. Instead, CNN chose to use the simpleton questions that they probably would have asked.

2. As annoying whiny as Gravel was about not being able to speak, he had a point. When Obama or Clinton were allowed to ramble for 95 seconds and Gravel was interrupted during his 30 sec., something ain’t right.

3. The Springeresque sandbagging of Edwards was total bullshit. Edwards supporters on DailyKos have really driven me away from this man, but even I recognize a hit and that was one big time.

4. How about NOT choosing the questions with right-wing talking points. The Asian guy asking about taxes, with the GOP talking point should never had made it. I saw at least 7 intelligent posting online from young adults regarding taxes, all without right-wing frames.

5. Don’t insult the intelligence of your viewers and the candidates by having them answer stupid questions like, “Who was your favorite teacher?” or “Do your kids going to public/private school?” Those questions do NOT help us find the ideal candidate.

Usually, I get upset because the candidates do not answer the question. However, they’ve answered these stupid questions in previous “debates” and I’m glad they chose this time to expand on what they’ve already mentioned.

That being said, I can’t wait to see what they do for the Republicans. This so-called “liberal media” has lobbed nothing but softballs to Republicans for 7 years.

  • Are we honestly to believe that CNN will have the Republican candidates ask questions about Katrina, getting out of Iraq, global warming and gay marriage?
  • Will they have almost 20 minutes of fact-checking after the Republican debates?
  • Before the debates begin, will there be a roundtable discussion with a liberal columnist, Democratic strategist, a campaign strategist, all hosted by Patt Morrison or Robert Scheer?
  • How much time will they spend on picking apart Romney’s wardrobe?
  • Will they have Maria Elena Salinas back to discuss Latino issues or will they have some old white guy doing it (as usual)?

Blogroll

Wow. Just looked at this and hadn’t realized how many of these blogs are now defunct or super suck. I also want to add a few more blogs to the roll. I’m going to be cleaning them up. I wish I knew how to break them out into categories. I think that would be fun. I see all the other blogger blogs and get so jealous of all the tweaking people have done to their blogs.
